Zagreb is once again preparing for its most magical time of the year. The renowned Zagreb Advent, repeatedly named the Best European Christmas Market, officially returns on Saturday, November 29, 2025, and will light up the city until January 7, 2026.

This year’s program promises to blend beloved classics with new, exciting features, bringing the festive spirit back to all corners of the city, including a major focus on the historic Upper Town (Gornji Grad).

  • Official Opening: November 29, 2025

  • Ice Park Opening: The magnificent Ice Park (Ledeni Park) on King Tomislav Square will open on the first day of Advent, November 29, offering the largest open-air skating rink in the region.

  • “The Nutcracker” Open-Air Screening: A beloved tradition returns on December 23 with the open-air broadcast of the classic ballet The Nutcracker in front of the Croatian National Theatre (HNK).

  • Zagreb Advent Run: The popular costumed run is scheduled for December 14, combining fitness with festive fun for a good cause.

 

 

Return to the Upper Town: New Old Magic

One of the biggest announcements this year is the full return of events to the beautiful Upper Town, after being limited in recent years due to post-earthquake renovations.

  • Café de Matoš on Strossmayer Promenade: The romantic and nostalgic atmosphere of Café de Matoš is back on the Strossmayer Promenade (Strossmayerovo šetalište). Expect live music, beautiful views, and a dedicated photo corner.

  • Ban Jelačić Square – Main Christmas Tree & Nativity Scene – The central hub with the largest tree, stages for concerts, and the traditional Nativity Scene near Manduševac fountain.
  • Fuliranje (Strossmayer Square) – High-end Street Food –  This location offers the city’s best and most diverse gourmet street food, creative vendors, and a lively, modern atmosphere.
